North Greece tour ( Five days )
This tour provides you the opportunity to explore Macedonia, the homeland of Alexander the Great, through a journey of seven thousand years of Greek history.
Day 1st: We pass through Livadia and Arachova in order to arrive at Delphi. There we will visit the museum and the archaeological site. Then we will continue for Kalampaka, a small town situated at the foot of the astonishing and gigantic complex, known as Meteora. In Kalampaka we will have dinner and stay for the night.
Day 2nd: First thing in the morning, we’ll go visit Meteora, and in particular the Monasteries on top of them, where you can see the exquisite specimens of Byzantine art. After Meteora we’ll pass through Trikala and Larisa in order to arrive at the famous and sacred Macedonian town of Dion, where we will visit the archaeological site. There we can also admire the gigantic figure of Mount Olympus, the highest mountain in Greece. Then we depart for the town of Naousa where we will have dinner and rest for the night.
Day 3rd: The morning we depart for the beautiful town of Kastoria, known as the Greek center of fur industry as well as for its beautiful lake. Near the lake a seven thousand years settlement was discovered. In the nearby small local museum , you can admire all the rare findings as well as a recreation of the old settlement. Next destination is Edessa, a magical town known for its Waterfall. Then we depart for the town of Naousa where we will have dinner and rest for the night.
Day 4th: The morning we drive to Pella, the ancient capital of the Kingdom of Macedonia, where we will visit the archaeological site. Then we continue to Thessaloniki, the largest city of Northern Greece. There we’ll tour the city, and we’ll visit the most interesting museums. Then we depart for the town of Naousa where we will have dinner and rest for the night.
Day 5th: First thing in the morning, after our departure from Naousa, we visit the local Boutari winery, an area mostly known for the production of some of the finest wines in Greece. Then we will visit Vergina, and more specifically its museum, where we can admire all the astonishing and priceless findings belonging to the Macedonian civilisation which were brought to life by recent excavations. Then we will start driving south, through the valley of Tempi, the town Lamia, the famous Leonidas monument at Thermopulae, and the town of Kamena Vourla, until we arrive in Athens late in the afternoon.
